Prologue
By 2041, Paris had a summer that killed and a winter that flooded, and a machine that tried to manage both.
If the interlude ended this way: Lina leaked the contract.
Lina had leaked the contract in 2032, and the city knew what the Grid was before it was built.
Otherwise
Lina had helped build the system in 2032, and the Grid was already watching when the heat came.
The Steward ran the trams, the water and the budgets. It did not run for office.
The factions
The Revolution
- The Assemblies
- Neighbourhood assemblies that meet in person, phones left at the door.
- The Ash Front
- Cendre and the climate insurgents, strong and impatient: the fastest road to the Red Dawn.
- The Commons
- Maëlle Okafor and the cooling communes: shade, water and cold rooms run by the people who use them.
- The Hackers
- Lina and the crews who open blind spots in the Grid and take its drones off the air.
The Law
- The Chancellery
- Chancellor Iris Vautrin and her ministers.
- The Drone Corps
- Commander Théo Blanc and the swarms over the rooftops.
- The Prefecture
- The old police, now working to the Steward’s forecasts.
- The Steward
- The city’s AI administrator. Its directives make the Law faster and cheaper. If its Power reaches 70 while Legitimacy is under 30, it decides for itself.
- The Funds
- Insurers and investment funds, who price every street by its risk.
Neutral factions
- The Feeds
- The streams and the channels, where every video may be a fake.
- Parisians
- The Platforms
- The companies that run the feeds and the wallets.
