The Map Beneath
- Years
- 1823 to 1826
You play Émile
Émile, the locksmith's apprentice of 1789, is in his forties now and surveys the old quarries and bone galleries under the south of the city for the mines inspectorate. Nobody knows them better, and that has become dangerous.
Mission 1: 7 April 1823
Bones
- Turns
- 8 turns, a day each
Four quarters sit on hollow ground. Chart the galleries under each of them, two shifts of work apiece, while the smugglers who use the tunnels and a police patrol both look for the man with the lamp.
Objective
Chart the galleries under all 4 districts (two shifts each), or get out unarrested with what you have
How it can end
- Émile charted every gallery.
- Émile got out with part of the map.
Mission 2: 18 September 1826
Two Buyers
- Turns
- 10 turns, a day each
There is only one complete map, and two buyers: the Underground in Saint-Marcel and the Prefecture on the Cité. Meet one and sell, or meet both and split the map between them, which is harder, and which neither will forgive.
Objective
Meet a buyer, then sell the map to the Underground or to the Prefecture, or split it between them, without being seized
How it can end
- The map went to the Underground.
- The map went to the Prefecture.
- Émile split the map between them.
- The map was seized.
