The Files
- Years
- 1944 to 1945
You play Claire
Claire, a magistrate of twenty-six, is handed the Prefecture's archives: every letter of denunciation, every informer's name. Outside, crowds are settling scores without trials.
Mission 1: 28 August 1944
The Square
- Turns
- 8 turns, an hour each
Three squares, three crowds, three people the crowd says deserve punishment. Talk to the crowds before anyone is punished without a trial. The police can clear a square, but that is force, not justice.
Objective
Keep the anger in all three squares under 10 until the day is over
How it can end
- Claire calmed the squares with words.
- The squares were cleared by the police.
- A crowd punished someone without a trial.
Mission 2: 8 January 1945
The Archive
- Turns
- 10 turns, a day each
The files are in the archive on the Cité. An old collaborator wants his own file gone; a new intelligence service wants all of them, for later. Sort the boxes, then publish them at the printers in the Latin Quarter, or seal them for the state at the ministry in Saint-Germain.
Objective
Publish the files (five boxes sorted) or seal them (four) before four are stolen
How it can end
- The files were published.
- The files were sealed for the state.
- The files were stolen.
