II. The Vote

On the twenty-sixth of March Paris voted for a council of the Commune.

One way “The Vote” can end

The faubourgs voted in their thousands, and the council was proclaimed on the square of the Hôtel de Ville to cannon fire and a sea of red flags.

Otherwise

The west of the city stayed home, and the council was elected by half of Paris.

If the Revolution chose “A social decree first”

Its first decrees were about rents, bread and work.

If the Revolution chose “The defence first”

Its first decrees were about the defence of the city.

If the Law chose “Declare the vote illegal”

Versailles declared the election void.

Otherwise

Versailles quietly approached the moderates of the council.
