Nadia was born in 1968 in a maternity ward full of striking nurses, a fact her mother tells everyone. She grew up in a tower block in the east of the city, watched the left win the elections of 1981 on her parents' black and white set, and marched with the students of 1986 at eighteen.
She became a metro driver because it was a good public job with a pension at the end of it, and because she likes the tunnels at night. In the winter of 1995 the government announces it will change the drivers' pensions. Nadia has never been to a union meeting. She goes to the first one, and then to all of them.
