Prime Minister Georges Pomerol
Georges Pomerol was a tax inspector from the Limousin who rose through the ministries by never making an enemy he did not need, and became Prime Minister by patience. He has a peasant's caution and a card player's sense of timing, and he is the only man in government who seems to enjoy the work.
He believes nothing is ever settled by force that cannot be settled better at a table, and he prefers his tables long and his nights longer. He thinks the President is a great man of another century. He thinks the students are clever, spoiled and right about some things. He thinks the unions can be bought, and he intends to find out at what price.
