Lena Vos, dancer and suspected double agent
Lena Vos was born in Antwerp, the daughter of a gem cutter, and trained in the ballet school of the Brussels opera. Before the war she danced in Vienna, in Saint Petersburg and in Paris, in costumes the newspapers described at more length than her dancing, and she had admirers in every capital and every army.
The war made those admirers dangerous. She has crossed frontiers when nobody else could, carried letters for people she will not name, and been questioned by three police forces. The papers call her a spy, for one side or for both. Whether she was one is a question the trial is meant to answer, and nobody involved is certain it should be asked.
