Pierre Lenoir, radio operator
Pierre Lenoir repaired radio sets in a shop near the Gare de l'Est before the war. In 1941 a man he had never seen asked him whether he could make a transmitter fit in a suitcase. He could, and since then he has been the voice of the city's networks to the governments still fighting overseas.
He sends at different hours from different rooftops, never for more than a few minutes, because the occupier's detector vans can find a set in under half an hour. He knows almost nothing about the people whose messages he sends, and he has arranged it that way. He is quiet, methodical and has stopped smoking, because a lit cigarette can be seen from the street.
