Felice Orsoni
Felice Orsoni is a Lombard engineer who has been in exile since the risings of 1848 were crushed. He has been arrested in four countries and escaped from two of them, and he carries his grievance like a letter he has read too many times: the man who now rules France once swore an oath to free Italy, and has not kept it.
In London he found a gunsmith who would make what he asked and no questions. He is courteous, well dressed and calm in a way that frightens the men who follow him. He does not want to kill anyone else. He has decided he will if he must, and that the scandal would serve Italy almost as well as the deed.
