How to play

Starting out

Lanterne runs in your browser, on a computer. A campaign is the same city across thirteen chapters, played from one side.

The title screen

New campaign starts a campaign and Continue picks up where you left off. The Library keeps what you have unlocked, the Shop is where coins are spent, and Settings holds the options.

Choose a side

The game asks: “Who holds the lamp?” You play the whole campaign from the side you choose, and the game plays the other one by the same rules. You can keep one campaign for each side; starting a new one for a side you already play replaces it.

How it playsCheap, fast and fragile. Spread ideas in the salons, raise the faubourgs, and stop your radicals before they burn the city you want to win.Rich, strong and slow. Keep order without turning every street against you, and watch your own generals and spies.

The campaign screen

The campaign screen shows the chapters and their levels. Winning a level opens the next one, and winning a chapter's finale opens the next chapter. From here you also reach the chapter's Upgrades, its Booklet, your Legacy and the Difficulty.

A level, from start to finish

  • The briefing: the date, your objective and the other side's, the number of turns and the three stars. Begin starts the level.
  • The turns: you give your orders, end the turn, and both sides' orders are carried out together. See Turns.
  • The result: who won and why, the Renown and coins you earned, and what changed in the city.
  • The choice: after most levels each side answers a question, and the answer rewrites a page of the booklet.
  • The booklet: the chapter's story, written as you play. See The booklet and the Library.

Your campaign is saved as you play. Saves live in this browser on this device. Export a file to keep a copy or to move your campaigns to another computer. Cloud sync arrives with accounts.
